Try This Puerto Rican Drink for the Holidays!

Chef Jean Paul makes a Coquito!

You know Christmas is coming when Chef Jean Paul starts making Coquitos! This festive drink is often likened to American-style eggnog.

The traditional Puerto Rican-holiday drink’s name translates to “Little Coconut” because of it’s abundantly sweet and creamy profile. This drink wouldn’t be complete without its generous portions of spiced rum, a staple in any Puerto Rican household during the holidays.

This delightfully creamy and spiced drink originated during the Spanish colonization of the Caribbean, when the Spanish mixed their version of eggnog with the local rum. The pillars of this recipe include: Spiced Rum, Cream of Coconut, Evaporated Milk, Sweetened Condensed Milk, and of course the signature spirit of celebration of the Puerto Rican people.

To make your own, follow the recipe below:

  • 2 cups Spiced Rum
  • 2 cups Cream of Coconut
  • 1 cup Evaporated Milk
  • 1 cup Sweetened Condensed Milk

Mix in the blender for 30 seconds. Shake in a cocktail shaker with ice, and serve in your favorite Christmas glass.
